An update to this morning's blog: The Port Charles guys are pretty sure that water dripping from a leaking shore water connector caused the autopilot to short and take over the helm--rendering manual steering impossible. There are a number of factoids that suggest this. This morning we disconnected the autopilot for "safety's sake." Steering worked fine for three hours today (total length of our day's cruise). We're safely tied up at Kaskaskia lock and dam.

Whew! It's a relief to see you tied up safe and sound. Great pics of St. Louis on your previous post - I got so wrapped up in the steering failure that I forgot to mention that. Also great that you got to meet the folks from BC. Are they doing the Great Loop? You sure are finding out a lot about your boat. :-}
