Promise this will be brief. We woke up this morning at Wacca Wache (walkah watchee) Marina in a spectacular setting to a gorgeous day: upper 60s, light breeze, bluebird sky, not a cloud. Situated on the Waccamaw River, the Wacca Wache Marina is more or less surrounded by the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge--a spectacular combination of forested and wetland ecosystems. Why not go for a walk?

Any walk with the Admiral turns into a stroll with the birds and this was no exception. Within 20 minutes, we heard and/or saw 20 birds: Carolina Wren, Carolina Chickadee, Northern Cardinal, Baltimore Oriole, Northern Perula, Chimney Swift, House Finch, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Tufted Titmouse, American Crow, Fish Crow, Kildeer, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, Great Blue Heron. Yellow Rumped Warbler, House Sparrow, Eastern Bluebird, White Throated Sparrow. Spring is sprunging as they say.

Our cruise to Georgetown along the Waccamaw River and through the National Wildlife Refuge reminded me of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons. Traveling 20 miles with hardly a sign of man, we enjoyed exquisite scenery on a cloudless day with a WSW breeze that started out at 5-10 and grew to 15-20 with gusts north of 30. “It was like exploring a place that you have seen in a dream, where everything is just where you expect it and yet everything is a surprise.”
We are blessed.
